trust yourself.
I remember the words my mom told me when I had my first baby girl. The same words her doctor had shared with her when she had me.
“Trust yourself.”
And those were words that her doctor had shared with her when she had me.
"Trust yourself because a mama knows. You will do your best and you will know best for many years of her life. And you will learn from her just like she will learn from you. Always listen to that inner voice because it will be the right thing to do.” And she has been right. And now I have two daughters to apply this to.
When one of them are sick, I know before she even runs a fever, or before she tells me. When they need an extra hug, I know.
When someone has hurt their feelings, I know.
When they need time with just me, or time to themselves.
When I've had a feeling that something was off with someone, I've been right.⠀ “Trust yourself" can be applied to all things in life.
In business, in relationships/friendships, career choices, food choices, doctors, etc. etc. You see where I'm going with this… I also like to say in other words, when you know, you know.
99% of the decisions are made based on my inner knowing… that inner voice… "trust yourself" - and the more spiritually connected I have become, the louder that voice is. Trusting myself has freed me from toxic situations and saved me from making unnecessary choices. It has saved me time and decision making with situations again and again.
That said, life events, traumatic events, abuse, endings and even beginnings can lead to us not trusting ourselves, that inner knowing, and even (as it’s all connected) our higher power.
Rebuilding self trust is a powerful journey of self-discovery and growth. here are a few ways and thoughts on how to get that back:
Take a moment to reflect on the areas where you feel you've lost trust in yourself. What happened to result in this feeling? Is it still happening? Can you take control of it and shift it now that you recognize it? Be gentle and compassionate as you acknowledge any past mistakes or self-doubt. Give yourself the same love and compassion as you would someone you love. Because remember, you DO love yourself. You will love yourself again if you’re struggling right now.Allow space for growth and accept that everyone makes mistakes. Offer yourself forgiveness and move forward with a mindset of self-love. One of my favorite exercises is to write my future self a letter about how much I love her and list all the reasons why. Remind yourself of your strengths, resilience, and past successes.
If you’re trying to reach a goal, be sure to create inspired and tangible steps to get there. Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small, and take notice as you begin to strengthen your belief in yourself again.
Set boundaries with yourself and honor the commitments you make to yourself. Consistency and follow-through are key to rebuilding trust. Whether it's keeping promises, sticking to a self-care routine, or pursuing personal growth, demonstrate to yourself that you can rely on your own word.
Other prompts:
Do you have trouble hearing that "inner voice?" Do you feel like your voice has been muted? And how many times have you silenced that voice? What would you say if you didn't feel silenced? What's your message?
Remember: You are way more capable than you think and that inner knowing is a powerful little gift. Use it wisely and often.
Much love to you.
